•First talk about what you wrote for what concentration camp life had made of Elie (the paragraph you wrote).
Then discuss the questions/notes that you all created while reading on your own. Each of you need to lead the discussion of your own topics.

•Once you’ve done this, talk about what
the section you read on your own (61-65) was about.
•What specifically happened to those
hanged?
•Why were they hanged?
•What was the difference between the two
incidents?
•What did Elie mean by the comment about
the soup?
•What were your reactions to this section?
•Did you have any questions about the
section? What were they? Discuss as a group.
Post your group's comments/ideas on all of these questions as a comment on this post. Make sure to begin the post with all of your names, and then go on to the points that were discussed.
Who is the guard.
ReplyDeleteI want to see a map of the camp
Why are some dressed nicer than the others.
What happened to the girl.
He gave up... he didn't care he just fights for himself now.
ReplyDelete1. They hanged and died
2. They all were traitors to the Nazi party
3. the first guy was guilty and the second was for just to scare them
4. They used the prosecuted people and ashes for seasoning of thy soup
5. Crazy turn of events
we said that Elie changed mentally physically, emotionally, and spiritually. And that he didn't care about dying

1)the adults died immediately, but the child, too light died only after 1/2 hour
ReplyDelete2) the dentist was first hanged because the stole from the camp, and the others stole guns
3)in both the incidents the adults yelled freedom and cursed the camp the child remained in silence
4) for the first time after that the child was hanged i realized that he cared about the others inmates
5) brutal it was difficult to go overt the death of the child
Hes a soulless body to the Germans. He is expendable. He doesn't connect to his morals and what he stood for before this happened. They were hanged for being caught having weapons which was illegal. They broke the law of transporting weapons. One soup tasted better after the two were killed because they were going to rebel against the Germans so he didn't feel as bad. When they had the soup after the kid was killed it tasted bad because he suffered from it. It had a deeper impact than the others because it has more meaning because of the death.

ReplyDelete1.) Elie is mentally/emotionally empty and exhausted.
2.) During this section it was about when the three jews were hung, including the young boy.
3.) They shouted, "Long live liberty." All of the jews were demanded to take their caps off in respect, also they had to walk by the dead and look at their face.
4.) They were hung because of stealing weapons, and assisting the stealing.
5.) The difference between the incidents is that the young boy was lighter than the other men so he did not die right away and it took longer to die. In the case of the young boy it was a bigger deal to them. The SS were more worried to be hanging a child, and the lagerkapo refused to act as an executioner.
6.)
7.) This section was really deep, and intense because of the executions including how the young boy passed away of a slow death.
8.) Did the lagerkapo get punished for turning down an execution? What is a pipel?
