Wednesday Bell Ringer
You should be making progress in the book that you have chosen to independently read this quarter. You should aim to have the book completed by Oct. 31, which means you may have to read a bit outside of class. What I would like you to do for today's bell ringer is to post a comment to this post explaining a bit about your book. You should give a quick summary of what the book is about (2-3 sentences), a little about the main character and what you like and don't like about that character, and then explain your favorite part of the book so far and why it is your favorite part.

In the book that I'm reading, jay bock, an agnostic going on atheist is fed up with the ideas and rituals of religion. To mock it he invents his own religion that bases around his local water tower, saying it's god. He finds out in the midst of this however that people actually believe this newly formed religion.
ReplyDeleteProblems with this character vary, but most notably are his issues with authority, though he's a perfectly normal kid. My favorite part of the book so far in my opinion would have to be when he climbed the water tower and declared himself "head kahuna" of his new religion.
DeleteMy book is called, "She Is Not Invisible" by Marcus Sedgwick. This book is about how Laureth Peak (her name is a chemical from a shampoo bottle contents) and her little brother Benjamin, and his stuffed animal Steve have to find their dad. They leave their home, when their mom is gone, and take a plane to NY, for them they are going to America. Their father is missing, since their mom is not going to do anything about it, Laureth takes matters into her own hands. With the series of cryptic messages and frightening clues their father leaves behind, together they must unravel the mystery and find their father before it's too late. The problem: Laureth is blind.

Long before scientists found a cure, people thought love was a good thing. In present time in Delirium, scientists are able to “eliminate” love, and the government demands that each person receive “the cure” upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway, (the main character) has always looked forward to the day when she would be cured, but with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does what she never thought she would, and falls in love. I like the main character a lot, I think her personality and her thoughts throughout the book make it more interesting, adding to the plot.
My favorite part of this book is the distinctive detailed words that create unimaginable pictures in my mind. Descriptions of what love feels like, what the boy she falls in love with looks like... etc.
I am reading Unbroken and the main character in it is Louis Zamperini. He is a World War II fighter pilot whose plane crashes in the ocean. He is stranded out there for several days and I would have to say that this is my favorite part because the author clearly shows his thoughts and perspectives in the situation.
ReplyDeleteLouie Zamperini starts out as a young trouble maker stealing things and picking on others. As he starts to get older and mature he starts moving into the idea of running to get away from his troubles. He goes on to train and run in the Olympics. After running he heads toward the idea of joining the Air Force even though he was scared of flying. He drops out and then soon rejoins because he hears that the woman love the uniform so he rejoins. And gets stuck with a mighty good crew flying a plane called "Super Man" he goes through many victories and losses of fellow crews.

My book is about a girl who gets in a car crash with her family and in unconscious in the ICU. When she is in the ICU her ghost has to decide if she wants to stay in the real world or if she wants to join her mom, dad, and little brother in heaven. This book takes you back in time before the car accident to explain how she got in a relationship with a boy and how her life was before everything happened. Mia is the girl that is in the ICU she is a very quite cello player that does really well in school and loves her family. The thing I like about her is that she doesn't care what people think of her anymore. I like that she embraces that. The thing I don't like about her is that she is kind of annoying in the sense of being selfish in her own musician type of way. My favorite part of this book is that it takes you on a journey through a teenagers eyes and her having to make a decision on weather she wants to wake up an orphan or if she wants to join her parents and brother in heaven.
Lone Survivor: This book is about the lost heroes of seal team 10 And operation redwing and how the Main character Marcus Luttrel survives. The main character Marcus Luttrel the only seal who survived tells his life story and his fallen brothers. The thing I like About Marcus was the courage he had even when his team was dead and the goal to move forward there's nothing I don't like about the main character.
ReplyDeleteUnbroken is the title of my book. The book is about an guy named Louise that once was a famous Olympic runner and after that he goes off to war. His plan is shot down and he was with another man named Phil.n They spend countless days in the ocean the Japanese kept them as prisoners of war. My favorite part is when they talk about his childhood he was a wild and obnoxious kid.
ReplyDeleteI am reading “More Than This”, by Patrick Ness, its about a teenager who dies and wakes up in the town where he grew up, in front of the house where he grew up. He has absolutely no clue whats going on and it takes him a while for him to find answers. one thing i really like about the book is every time he goes to sleep the chapter ends and the next chapter is his dream, so you get to learn more about his past and why he died. I like Seth (the main character) because he acts like a normal person probably would in that situation.
ReplyDeleteI am reading The Maze Runner by James Dashner. It is about a boy named Thomas who can only remember his name. He gets thrown in the Glades, not alone but with other boys until 30 days later a girl shows up and this makes Thomas feel different something telling him he might just get some answer. The main Character is Thomas and he can't remember his own name. He can't remember his family. what i like about him is that he is kinda of like a leader and he starts to figure out what is going on in the Glades. what i don’t like about him is that he lets people in the Glade call him names. my Favorite part in the book right now is when the Girl comes in. Girl Power!
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book ‘Prey’ by Lurlene McDaniel, and this book is in the perspective of a 14 year old freshman named Ryan. At the beginning of this book Ryan begins high school and discovers that his new history teacher “is smokin hot babe”. Needless to say, even story like this ends up the same way, Lori Settles becomes fond of her student and they develope a secret relationship. I think my favorite part in the book is when Ryan and a couple of his friends are on there way to the football game, and all of the girls riding with in the car were talking pure trash about Ms.Settles. Ryan eventually gets so upset his flips out at them. Its pretty great.
