Why Read Catcher in the Rye?

There are many reasons why I chose this book for us to read, but I want to know what you think.  Please answer the following question as a comment on this post.
  • What should people take away from the book Catcher in the Rye? (lessons, ideas, meanings, knowledge about life, etc)

Your answer should be around a paragraph in length.  Make sure that you give more than just one possible point to take away!!

  2. The things that people should take from Catcher in the Rye is what Holden goes through and what his life was like. For example, some parents do make their kids go from school to school and some parents home school. How Holden talks about girls and how you should respect them and how to treat them and everything else. That is what I think people should take out of the book.

  3. People should take away the use of bad language in Catcher in the Rye. Half of the book is swearing and Holden swears in every other sentence. Holden also talks about sex. A lot. Some girls don't like to read things like that in books like how Holden says I could have had my chance if I wanted to. The stuff about be religous too should not be in there becasue when people ask questions about it and your not religous its kinda ackward.

  4. Catcher In The Rye is a book that should be read because not only does it connect to teenagers, it can connect to adults as well. This book represents not only the 1940's world, but the modern world as well. The modern world is full of the same challenges for teens that Holden and other teens faced in his time.

  5. I think you should take away the fact that school matters whatever you think, we see that holden regrets not doing better in school, and that is one of the reasons he wants to be a "catcher in the rye." Because he can't really save himself, but he can help other kids who have the same challenges as he did. And the fact that you will regret not doing good enough in school, I don't think anyone ever complains about doing to good in school and regret being good in school.

  6. I think that this novel "catcher in the Rye" is good. But i disagree wit ha couple things. Like sexually things should not be included in this novel because they show, almost nothing that goes with the novel. Its not appropriate a d doesn't need to be in the novel. With that gone the book is great and highly suggest other teens to read this novel

  7. What probably people should take from The Catcher in the Rye is how hoe relationships shape us. Holden can't have a normal relationship with people because is a compulsive lier, aggressive and an unpredictable guy. This lack of good relationships destroy him, is easy to see how at the end of the book ha can't take it anymore, he has a psychotic break because he keeps everything inside, and can't share his feelings with other people. Salinger tries to explain us that even in the difficulties we are not alone.

  9. They should take away all of the swearing. Swearing in the book is used way to much and all the use of sex. He should use a little more respect to other people instead of insulting them.

  10. The book catcher in the Rye has many things that you could take away from it. One thing that I take away is that sometimes it hard to be understood by others if you don't make it available to be understood. The story could have been brought down in size if he went to see that "shrink" and let people know who he was. I let everybody know who I am. Other things was feelings can be hard. sometimes you don't know how to control your feelings and just blow up. Things like that can be hard

  12. The book can be seen from many points of view. There's one point that Holden looks at the world as a adult. He sees the world in different perspectives than most people do. That can also relate to modern day because people judge other people on themselves.

  13. The novel can be viewed in different points of view. People should look at the book in a positive light, in which some cases may not be true but the real meaning of the book should impact and connect with everyone. Holden sees the world in a different perspective than many that ought to do. This relates to people presently based on the way that people judge others on their choices, and their background.

  14. I think that Catcher in the Rye is a book that should be read by teens due to the fact that it can connect to them. It can also connect to adults as well as teens. The book gives a different view on teens than what we would think. The book is a good way of showing teens that the 1940`s were different than what we thought it was.

  18. Catcher In the Rye mostly teens can relate to certain parts of the book. Holden calling people phonies or fakes teens can relate to that by learning who their real friends are. People can relate to Holden's depression and his actions. Learning that everyone around you is not a phony like Holden kinda thinks everyone is a phony. What Holden goes through most people can relate to it. This is a impacting book and has a lot of meaning in it.

  19. There are quite a few different things that people could take away from Catcher in the Rye. The big one, to me, is about innocence and growing up. Throughout all of as you grow up, you lose your innocence and, obviously, your adolescence. You have to grow up and take responsibility. Many adults still try to get some of that innocence back, because they think they grew up way too fast. They can't do that though. A thing that people should take away from Catcher in the Rye is to not grow up too fast, because they'll most likely regret it when they are older.
