OMM Section 3 Quiz

Some of the questions count more than other questions.  If we haven't talked about an idea, it doesn't count as much as the things we have talked about.

Go to this link, click to show all of them and then take the quiz.

The quiz is open notes (anything we've been writing while reading), not open book.

When you are done, copy the WHOLE QUIZ (Questions and Answers) and paste it into a document that you share with me.

Lessons, Understandings, Thoughts, etc. from Flight

When people read, they should take things away from their reading.  Maybe they have a different understanding of some aspect of the world from the plot or characters of the book.  Maybe they have gained knowledge of something that they had little knowledge of earlier.  Maybe they learned a lesson from the plot or the characters.  Whatever it may be, this is one of the reasons we read.  After discussing with your partner, please comment on this post with a list of the things that you think you have taken away from this book.  These could be lessons, ideas, knowledge, thoughts, understandings, etc.

Challenged Books Discussion

When books are challenged, a formal complaint is made to either a school or library from a concerned individual who is worried about the book being in the hands of children and/or teens.  Sometimes this leads to books being banned by school districts or governing boards so that it cannot be either in the library or taught in a class.

How many books that have been 'challenged' in the past do you think you’ve read? List the titles.

What do you think are the top reasons that books are challenged (in general)?

What are the different reasons why this book (Flight) could be controversial?

What are issues in this book that are issues to teens today?

What in Zits’ life has made him a controversial person? Are those things filled with controversy?

Post you and your partner's answers to all of these questions as a comment on this blog.  Remember to post as a blogger profile (for those of you who were in English 9 with me, it should do this automatically.  Help anyone who has issues if you remember how to do it)
