Tuesday, April 30 Agenda


  • Bell Ringer: Finish OMM 60-65
        • Sheets on the book (Take some time to add to chronolog, conflict, and character details, make sure you are adding to themes as we read/discuss)
        • Big Ideas Notes –You need to post a SECOND piece of textual evidence on my edublogs posts.  This example must come from pages 38-65
          • add to your paper from reading through comments too
    • Perspective Journal from 49-65 (second half of 3) –I will check #3 (38-49) while you write this if I didn’t Friday
      • Independent Reading when you finish

      • Career Research
          • Reminders: you should be putting your interview details into the spreadsheet (as well as your notes from other sources.  YOU SHOULD HAVE MULTIPLE DETAILS PER CELL!!!!!
          • Spreadsheets are due Tuesday, May 7 (ask questions at Men of Tomorrow luncheon to work into spreadsheet)
          • We will talk in a week about making a choice to do the second half of the project (if you are ‘finished’, have me check what you have, then read your independent book if I agree with you...

        • Of Mice and Men: List of Conflicts –put the table in your OMM section with the character sheet, chronolog, and big ideas
        • Internal: --character vs. self
        • External:--character vs. character                             --character vs. society --character vs. unknown
      **After you write each type of conflict, add some examples of that conflict, and explain a little of the why/how.

  • Bell Ringer:  Independent Reading Time (make sure you’ve read through page 30 in OMM)
  • OMM Section 1 Quiz
    • When done with quiz, work on your research notes
  • Career Research
  • Take out your sheets from Of Mice and Men: Read rest of 2 (31-37)
    • Chronolog (Character details on back), theme examples
  • Journal from the perspective of Lennie or George: already wrote one on the first 16 pages, now write another about thoughts, feelings and reactions of either character to section 2 (17-37)
    • –Make sure you cover ALL THE BIG POINTS from the section.  Be that character (use the word I, can be same or different from first entry)
    • Share most important detail from perspective journal, section 2
  • Specific themes to talk about (make sure you have some details from today’s reading (or earlier) in these categories): Importance of Relationships, American Dream, Innocence, Loneliness
  • Post an example in one big idea post on my blog (It CANNOT be a repeat!!!!!!!!!)
    • Read through everyone’s posts on the big ideas, then turn off your computer and read your independent book

  • Bell Ringer: In writer’s notebook: Can dreams become actual plans, or are they aspirations that should remain untouched, so that there’s always something to reach for? Why? Explain your ideas in depth. (if you aren’t in your seat, with the sheets out when the bell rings, you WILL be tardy)

  • Pick either George or Lennie and in their voice, write a journal entry based on what has happened so far.  Make a new section within your Writer’s Notebook section (or you can type them) for these entries – each entry needs to be about ½ to ¾ of a page long.

  • Essay test Monday
    • Throughout the novel Night, Elie explains his relationship with his faith.  Using examples from the book, explain how Elie’s faith changes due to his experiences during this time.
    • How does the book Night help us to better understand the importance of relationships? What are the different types of relationships seen in the book and how do they affect people?
    • Throughout the novel, the inmates of the camp experience dehumanization.  Using pieces of textual evidence, demonstrate the effects of dehumanization on an individual or individual
  • Outline check –I checked outlines during 2nd block: READ MY COMMENTS -if you’ve added more since I checked, call me over
    • Make sure outline is complete (WITH TEXTUAL EVIDENCE)
    • Do the intro and conclusion section of the outline -consult Google Classroom Writing a Lead resource for attention getter
    • You need an outline on its own sheet of paper that follows the format exactly (labelled correctly, etc.)
    • Make sure you show me/Ms. B a COMPLETE OUTLINE before you move on to working on your research
  • When you are done fixing your outline, work on your Research, organize/catch up on journals, or read your independent book
