  1. I Catcher in The Rye, I liked how Holden would just do whatever he wanted. I didn't like that Holden would be a unreliable narrator. I hated it because you couldn't trust what he said in the book. This book did make me think. I had to think of what he was saying or what the quotes meant that we were reading. I am thinking that the book was very good.
I thought that the book was teaching what not to do in life. Like how Holden was getting kicked out of school because he was failing all his classes except for one. While we were reading, I was thinking about questions that I would have. Like, Why do you lie about things? Why do you just go whatever you want instead of going home? Why would you say you want to go places when you really aren't? Those are some things I thought while we were reading.

  2. I liked the book Catcher In The Rye because it was very detailed and I could relate to some of what Holden was going through and talking about. I did not like that Holden kept going on and on about “phonies” on multiple occasions along with saying things like “old Phoebe” instead of just Phoebe even though his sister Phoebe is only 9 years old and he is 17 years old. Holden also says things like “That killed me” or “That knocked me out” when he never gets killed or knocked out in the book.

  3. I liked the style of the book and the idea. It was fun and interesting to read but what I didnt like was that the story really just thrown together and it didn't go anywhere. It seemed like the book was going to have an actual story line but it only talked about random things. Like when Holden was depressed throughout the book he was finally happy at the end when he realized that he wanted nothing but the best for the children so they wouldn't be depressed like him so he was going to be the catcher in the rye.
The book made me think about life in a different way because Holden and I are kind of alike other than I do not fail out of schools but I dont always do the best. It showed a new way to look at things and how to understand things better for me. Holden proves that he is immature but in the end he wants to grow up so he can help others get through tough times and I think that is a good idea that really pulled the end of the book together.

  4. I liked the book because it was an interesting story and it was easy to connect to for many reasons. It helps teen understand that they are not the only ones having trouble and that there was problems like that in the forties and fifties.
It did make me think but not as much as i wanted to. The things it made me think about wernt what i expected to think about.

  5. What i liked about "Catcher In The Rye" is that is related to the way some teenagers are today. Taking the book and writing it from a teenagers point of view and telling every move, thought, and action really made you feel like you were inside Holden, seeing everything from his point of view.
However, i didn't like how he always repeated things like "man that killed me". The repetition of the word got quite old quickly. Over all, the book made me realize that even though i don't closely relate to his thoughts/actions, it does well relate to many teenagers today, and then. "Catcher In The Rye" is a book that i believe has good relations to an average teen. The insite on what teenagers think/know/hear about sex, drugs, cigarettes...etc you might not want to believe they know, but the reality can be surprising.

  7. The catcher in the rye was a book written by JD Salinger. Personally, my opinion is the book is highly acclaimed and not deserving of the awards its received. There is not a point to this book, the climax, is when he hires a prostitute, but then again its hard to find the climax in a book where there isn't a timeline. The majority of the book is the main character wandering around new york city, complaining about his life without making any effort to fix it. the end was an attempted twist ending where he ends up in a mental hospital but that is all there is.

Holden, the main character is hard to listen to, because the droning of his voice in the book just goes on until eye are glazed over. For instance, whenever Holden would talk about calling the old girl he used to like he would wimp out, making no effort to talk to her. then he would always talk about running out west and then didn't. half the book is him thinking about doing something then not following through like when he hired the prostitute, he didn't even utilize the situation for lack of better words. The book is depressing because there's no hero or ending to the story.

  8. There is many reason to like this book. I liked this for all of the things that teens can connect to it. I liked that Holden never forgot about his family and never gave up. He had many reason to just give up on his life, but his family is what keep him going. I like that because whats has happened in my life didnt think about there family he just thought about himself. In holdens decision he kept pushing on and knew it would all work out. What got me not liking this book was he didnt care about anyone but his self a lot. As shown in the first couple chapters when he talks to ms spencer about schooling. Old spencer was worried about him but all holden cared about was getting out of there.
Through out this book it has every teen thinking about there own life and how they can connect to this book. I this book i can connect with the problem in school, If i want to do good i can but i never apply myself. After i read this book i can see why it is good to apply yourself cause if you dont you will go know where in life. Dropping out of school doesnt make you a good post, you need schooling now days. With this book many kids connect to it because of the drinking and smoking in life and with that you arent going anywhere.

  9. What I liked about the book is that kids who read the book can actually relate to the book. How Holden acts and how he responds to things can relate to teens today.Like when Holden sits in the bar and tries to drink but he is not old enough that sounds like kids now days that they like to drink and smoke and other things. But what I did not like about this book is how it shows that in the book back then they could almost do whatever they please to do, like how Holden can fail school and hop on a train and head to the city all by himself. Also he can get into a hotel and he is not even 18, like have to be now.

What this made me think about is that where he was when he was telling us the story. He told us that he was in California but not where till the end. He made me think about how he really feels in life how people are all phonies. He was telling us about his brother Allie and how much he missed him and how he regrets the things that he didn't do with him, that made me think about how I would feel if i lost one of my siblings. I would be lost without them, yeah I don’t get along with them but I still love them.

  10. I had many different thoughts and feelings trough the book. Some were good well others were not so good. Overall I like the book was good but not great. I think it was good because it had parts where you could relate but yet it had parts where you couldn't relate or you were just wondering why they would put them in there or he would randomly start talking about different things. like in chapter 9 " Okay I said. Then I thought of something, all of the sudden. Hey, listen I said you know those ducks in that lagoon right near Central Park South? That little lake?" I think he just starts talking about random things. He gets off of track sometimes. I don't find any reason to know about ducks in a lagoon and where they go. And he should know where they go if he has ever went to school. So I don't think he is very smart.

The rest of the book is really good because everything else has a reason to be said because he learned a lesson or there is a lesson to be taught. So with all of this being said i think the book is good but there are a few minor things that keep it from making it a great book. And it also keeps your interest because you never know where you going next it always has your attention. Therefore I think the book is good and more people should read it because you can relate to the book it also has many lessons to be taught and it always has your attention.

  11. The book The Catcher in the Rye has a lot of things that I liked, loved, disliked, and hated about the book. The book also put many thoughts into my head about what’s going on. I like how real Holden is throughout the book, and how he doesn't sugar coat things for anyone. I also like how the book shows feelings so well, the author did really good with expressing things and showing details. One thing I loved about the book in general is that kept me hooked and never really had any boring parts, there was always things happening. The book made me think and realize that letting people in is for the best because they actually care. It also made me think about how important it actually is to try in school. This book still has a lot of good and accurate things even tho it was written during 1950’s This is probably one of the best books i’ve read, and I only disliked a few things.
I didn’t like all the swearing throughout the whole book I thought it was a little too much, but then again I also liked that there was swearing because it showed Holdens immaturity, but I think there could've been a little less and still got the point across. I also didn’t like all of the talk all the sex talk because I find that really immature and boring to listen too. But overall I really enjoyed the book and thought that it was really good and got a good point across.

  12. In the book, Holden Caulfield is trying to grasp at maturity. As a teenager this kind of behavior and attitude is still relevant, even if it is dated. Our generation might be more technologically focused, but that does not change the simple feeling near all of us have, rebellion toward those older than us. Most teens are trying to grow up too fast just as Holden Caulfield did in Catcher In The Rye.

I have a good and a bad reaction about this book. First, my bad reaction about the book is that Holden is not a good influence to other teens in today society because in the entire book Holden always using offensive language and talk about sexuality. In the other hand, good reaction about Catcher in the Rye, Holden care so much about other people that really close to his life like he care about Allie and D.B. and so on...

  13. i liked this book for many reasons. One reason i liked this book is it can connectec to many people out there. i think this book was full of emotions. towards the end of the book holdens emotions really came out and he started to really show what he was really feeling. When holden said every body was a phonie i think means that when people are not like him they are phonies.
All though this book Holden shows many examples how to act and how not to act. The ways he acts can put many bad influences on anybody's life people may change thoughts off this book. Many people can can say they can reflect off of him and the way he acts. he emotions really sprout toward the end of the book and he finally burst towards the end. I think that if he would of try'd he would have actually made it in school.
